hattie_notqueen: (SERIOUSLY pissed)

She'd been back on Earth for two weeks and hadn't seen more than several floors of the SGC. No sunlight, no moonlight, no blue skies, grey skies, white fluffy clouds... nothing. The one time she had gone topside had been the middle of the night, unauthorized and the stars hadn't even been out, much less the moon. Just darkness, which meant that the trouble she'd gotten into hadn't even been worth it.

It was beginning to piss her off.

She'd passed her medical, her physical, her psychological... everything. With flying colors, even. If, by flying colors, one could mean that for the first twelve days she'd been back there had been nothing but blood work, treadmills and questions, questions and more questions. Everything she said was written down and analyzed just so they could ask her the same question again later. Sometimes they did her the small favor of asking it in a different manner, but not always.

Her dad and the rest of the team had all been finished in under a week. Even Teal'c who had stayed behind, too. She wanted to call ageism, but figured it wouldn't do any good. She spent the rest of the time wandering around the SGC and reacquainting herself with things she hadn't seen in twenty years. Of course, what was twenty years to her was now days to everyone else.

Interestingly enough, the presence of a new (female) face on the base didn't do much to the people there. The occasional bad pick-up line came her way but as soon as people noticed the name on her badge, they scurried away as if they were embarrassed about their actions. Those that didn't notice actually asked her name and with the heavy emphasis on 'JACKSON', the scurrying commenced. She had no doubt that if they weren't scared of her mom, they were somewhat scared of her dad in the 'OMG I just hit on Jackson's DAUGHTER' sense. Especially since days ago, she'd been a year and a half old.

It was complex, But, Hattie thought as she ran a hand down yet another Gunmetal Grey hall, these people have to have seen worse than this.

Then there was the problem of her mother. It had been awkward, really. Things were getting better, but at least with her dad, she had something to fall back on. Slips of knowledge here and there that she could tell him. Things that he'd told her about his own upbringing, things she could tell him about how SHE had been raised. He'd done a good job and her mother was stuck with the knowledge that she had missed it all. And since the Odyssey's firing range had been incomplete, she had immediately bonded with her daughter over, what else? Guns. It had led to talks and assurances that Hattie really had grown up well.

Two weeks and one day gave notice that the IOA wanted to see her. 'MEET' her, they said. It wasn't a formal affair, exactly, so she dressed in a suit that her mother had laying around and the entire family headed out. This, of course, meant that she, her mother and father took her mother's Tribute, Cam, Vala and Teal'c rode with Cam in his 1965 Mustang Fastback and General Landry was left standing there alone next to the government car. Right until they pulled out of the parking spot. Then Hattie jumped out and offered to ride with the General. She had her reasons, she said, and no one said much more. At least where she could hear. Vala speculated that perhaps it was Hattie who had hooked up with Landry and Cam told her to make sure that Jackson never heard her say that. Teal'c added a tight 'indeed' and Vala sat back to ponder the new information she thought she had.

Then, in what Hattie could only imagine was meant to completely make her uncomfortable, she sat at a table facing the IOA committee with her support at her back, and proceeded to answer questions. Upon questions. Upon questions.

Some questions she couldn't answer, giving 'upsetting the timeline' as an excuse. Some she wouldn't answer, giving 'upsetting the timeline' as an excuse. The longer she sat the angrier she got. She hadn't done anything wrong, and yet, here she was, sitting through yet another inquisition.

After what she guessed was several hours, the head of the IOA looked down from his seat on high and said they would discuss letting her off the base from time to time to fulfill any necessary tasks. Team SGC was shuffled out of the room to wait for all of... ten minutes.

"After careful consideration of the facts, the feelings of all involved, the evidence and the general societal norms that we live in, I’m afraid that the IOA simply cannot allow you to wander around planet Earth unescorted." As Hattie took a breath to speak, he continued, "You are, however, cordially invited to remain at the SGC-"

Her eyebrows shot up. Cordially invited? What the hell else was she supposed to do? She wasn't part of some alien invasion. She was human and the daughter of two members- Someone behind her clearly recognized the signs of her rising anger because she felt a hand on her right shoulder. Taking a deep breath, she touched the hand and it slipped off.

Was she supposed to say 'thank you'? Placing her palms flat on the table in front of her she stood, the chair scraping the floor. Matching the man's tone, she told him, quite matter-of-fact, "After careful consideration of the facts, your feelings, the evidence and the general societal norms that we live in, I’m afraid I will simply have to cordially invite you to go fuck yourself".

The shocked looks on the committee's faces made her flash a quick smile before she turned and stomped down the aisle between seats. Throwing open the doors, she wished crazily for a gun, a stick or both.

"That's my lil diplomat," Cam said as he followed her through the doors. Her father didn't speak but she could tell he was this side of a massive heart attack. Her mother was next and it was obvious she had heard Cam's comment because she added a wry, "At least she didn't have a gun," to which Teal'c added a low, "Indeed."

"Be that as it may, we have to follow the IOA's instruction-" General Landry held up a hand at Hattie's immediate reaction. "For now. We can revisit this in a month or two." He gave her a small smile. "But boy, was it nice to see someone say something like that. They had it coming."

Hattie gave a wobbly smile and a short nod. Threading her arm through Grandpa Landry's the group headed for the parking lot. It was going to be a long month. Or two.
