The ride from Maine via Kobie and portkeys wasn't exactly uncomfortable, but she DID let the Three Thousand drive since she was more worried about Kitt than what was going on on the roads.

As he pulled through the gates onto the large property, Hattie looked up and out the windshield briefly, then leaned over to run her fingers through Kitt's hair. "We're home, Kitt. We'll figure something out here."

She jumped out at the front door and let Kobie take him to the garage, going inside and asking for the butler and the gardener. If she could, she was going to avoid lifting Kitt into the house by herself. Not because she couldn't, but because she was fairly certain that she'd draw more talk NOT asking help than if she did.

Once he was settled on the bed, she thanked the staff and shut the bedroom doors. Then, she stood there and stared at the prone body of her husband.

"It will make a reappearance, Kobie. I'm certain of it. But thank you for the damage control. It is more than appreciated, believe me. I am in your debt."

He sighed, leaning back again, thoroughly tired of arguing but not sure at this point how to do anything else. "Mmmhmm."

"You are welcome. The system is now indeed secure, though it necessitated my involvement with rewriting some elements of the system's firewalls. I hope this was acceptable. I believe it will be safe to reboot the two servers that suffered downtime as a result of this virus, and grant email access back to the members of Knight Industries shortly."

Pause. "Perhaps I should remove myself from the conversation at this juncture. I am beginning to garner the impression that privacy may be required if there is to be a lover's quarrel of some kind. I do not wish to be an intrusive element."

"No, no, that's perfectly fine. More than fine. Thank you. You've probably saved the company. If the databases are lost..." He shuddered, not wanting to think about the years of work that could have been potentially wiped out. Perhaps he should put Kobie in charge of technological security. It was worth a consideration.

Kitt pressed his lips together, HARD, to keep from laughing out loud at Kobie's assessment of the situation. Not that the situation itself was funny, but hearing Kobie's innocent summation did make it seem a bit less serious.

"I'll wish to speak with you at a later time, Kobie."

"Of course." Then, before he signs off, he adds, "It is good to have you both home again, and safe."

"Goodnight, Kobie."

Hattie was still glaring at him, and Kobie had signed off before he realized what he'd said - the both of them home and safe?

He turned his gaze onto Hattie, staring at her evenly.

Hattie wasn't glaring... she was 'watching with concern'. That's all. And hey, for all Kitt knew, Kobie just meant that now they were both home safe from Kitt's lil sojourn to Maine. Geez, Kitt, paranoid much?

"Goodnight, Kobie. And thank you." A pause while she debated with herself. "For everything."

Watching Kitt watch HER seemed like a good intermediary plan, so she went with that. "I'm glad you're back, too."

"Are you?" The words were out before he could bite them back, but even so he wasn't sure he regretted them - yet. He kept watching her, gauging her reactions.

So he was going to make their fight all her fault? Fine. She stayed where she was and simply nodded in the affirmative.

He nodded slowly, lowering his voice. "Thank you."

She moved back in forth in front of the window for a moment and then asked, "Maine?" She shook her head. "No one knew where you were."

"I'd never been there." He shrugged, defensively. "I know they didn't. That was the plan. I didn't want to be found, I wasn't ready to be found. For the first time ever I fell off the grid. I would have found my way back eventually."
